Yesterday I went to Lunch with an Old Friend from Rolle Elementary school. It was a fabulous Lunch at Pita Jungle with a wonderful 2 hour conversation.
I met Tamara in 6th Grade. She was new and I can remember she was a gymnast and had the clearest blue eyes I have ever seen. I considered her as a friend in Elementary School. As we went on the Jr High and High School our paths went separate ways. She was a Cheerleader and on the Swim team. I was in the Show Choir. I remember being somewhat jealous of her popularity. But Life moves on. Things change and people you know in High School tend to fade from memory.
That is until about 5 years ago. I happened to bump into her of all places, my church building. It was a short meeting. And if it was not for her eyes, I don't think I would have recognized her. We said hello and exchanged some information but then Life Moved on again and we lost touch.
As our 20 year High School reunion is approaching, I found her blog on one of the links to our Kofa High reunion. I was able to catch up on her and her beautiful family. I left a comment there and through the power of the Internet, we where able to get in touch again. Hence the Lunch yesterday.
It was so good and eye opening for me. Not only was my limited perception of her wrong- She had a wrong impression of my life as well. Not that we ever thought bad of each other, just our outside views of each others lives where askew.
At the end of our 2 hour lunch, I left not only feeling I had reconnected with an old friend but with a person I honestly would love to get to know better. She has been though allot in her life and yet she has found joy in the journey. That is the kind of person I want to be friends with.
So here is to You Tamara. For a couple of Girls from Yuma, I don't think we turned out half bad. Smile wink wink...
